Whole Earth Tap’n Apple apple butter spread

Building off of the previous post of Suzanne’s Ricemellow Creme, I thought I would do a review on another new favorite spread of mine, Whole Earth’s Tap’n Apple apple butter spread. It has fierce competition with Suzanne’s and Vermont Village Cannery’s apple butter spread when lunch time rolls around and I have one slice of bread smothered in peanut butter and the other…*naked!*

So, this particular Apple Butter spread is literally smooshed apples in a jar. There is no sugar added, no preservatives, no artificial colors, dyes or flavors, and is naturally fat, cholesterol and sodium free. The company Whole Earth (manufactured by PANOS brands) “began as a little company with big ideas about offering more natural, healthier foods. Since 1967, Whole Earth has lived this passion-delivering the most delicious all  natural tastes!” 😀

Now, let us begin. When you think “apple” the color that comes to mind is…green. BUT. The color of this apple butter is more like this, BROWN. To tell you the truth, I’m  not sure why. Apples have skins of red, green and yellow, and flesh of white, but this apple butter is brown. They do add apple cider, so perhaps that has something to do with the coloring.

Anywho- upon opening the jar, it smells like sweetened applesauce and has a creamy, soft texture. The apple butter tastes like a sweetened applesauce as well (but alas! no added sugar!), but is much thicker and not “grainy” as applesauce can sometimes be. It also has a hint of cinnamon flavoring in the background. To bring that flavor out, I added a heaping tablespoon to the whole jar and just a wee bit of nutmeg, and mixed it throughly. After doing so- the flavor was incredible! Cinnamon-y, apple-y, butter-y! 😉
5 stars for sure !

I like this stuff best, obviously, spread generously on peanut butter sandwiches. But, it was also really good…
1. spread on waffles,
2.mixed in with plain yogurt,
and [don’t say ew- it’s AMAZING!]
3. A sandwich, with 1 slice of bread spread with 1 The Laughing Cow Wedge Cheese in Garlic & Herb flavor, and one slice of bread spread with the Apple Butter. Such a good combo. Tastes sort of like “cream cheese & jelly”. Delish!!

How do you like to eat Apple Butter? Is there a brand YOU like?

Suzanne’s Ricemellow Creme

Who want’s a fluffernutter? 😀
What’s better than the sweet and savory (and ultimately sinful) combination of marshmallow fluff and peanut butter. *Drool*
Unfortunately, the standard “fluff” in the supermarket (as tempting as it looks), is nothing more than corn syrup and refined sugar. Luckily, that’s where Suzanne’s Specialties comes in. They make vegan, all natural and organic sweeteners and toppings. They do not include refined sugars, cholesterol, fat, GMO’s, animal products, preservatives and are gluten free.

I certainly wanted a pb&fluff sammie once I recieved Suzanne’s Ricemellow Creme. And look at my result..

                                                                                           ***heaven***

Clearly, this stuff is amazing. The creme with the peanut butter on some whole wheat bread was the ultimate combination. Sweet, creamy and delectable. I could go for another right now…

When you open the tub of ricemellow fluff, it smells sort of like cotton candy. It certainly is fluffy, however. I think it looks like the inside of a burnt marshmellow. You know, when your all laughing and having a good time roasting marshmellows, and then *GASP!* your marshmellow is on fire! Then the outside is a burnt mess,  but the inside is gooey and delicious. That’s what this stuff is. Sweet, gooey (and VERY sticky!!) and delicious. I caught myself several times sticking my knife in after making my sandwich for “just a bit more”. This tub is not going to last very long in my house…

Overall, 5 stars for this product. Soooo tasty and, no refined sugar or corn syrup! I also like this stuff paried with…
1.Newman’s Own Cinnamon Sugar Soy Chips, use it as a dip.
2. Chocolate pudding and whole wheat pretzels, place a huge dollop on top. Delishh…
3.Apple Slices. Very good combination. And makes a healthy thing even sweeter. 🙂

Go buy this now!

Kopali Organics Dark Chocolate Covered Bananas

I know that you’re drooling once you read that line. You don’t have to lie to me. Dark Chocolate Covered Bananas. Yum. At least I know my mouth was watering once I received this from Kopali Organics. From the website, Kopali Organics says, “every choice we make affects our well being, the lives of countless others, and the future of our world. This is the truth that inspired us to start Kopali as a partnership to restore the connection between the food we eat, the farmers who grow it and the planet we all share. Our part is to bring you radically pure, extremely healthful food, produced in the most compassionate and sustainable ways possible.”

They have 10 SUPERFOODS available as of now, in 5 fruit and 5 chocolate varieties. I was sent the Dark Chocolate Banana variety, but I also really want to try the Dark Chocolate Covered MulberriesDark Chocolate Cacao Nibs and the Dark Chocolate Goji Berries. They all sound delicious!
Each SUPERFOOD is organic, nutrient dense, preservative and artificial flavor free and just plain GOOD for you! Bonus! When you buy Kopali’s products, you are supporting sustainable farmers, their communities and families too. Nice!

The Dark Chocolate Covered Bananas were purely excellent. In the bag, there are little “blumps” of chocolate covered pieces. They are not slices of bananas, but rather resemble the candy Raisin-ettes. However, there are some big chunks, some almost as big as a cotton ball, which made me rather happy 😀 .

Upon opening the bag, the chocolate smell is very strong and pure. The Dark Chocolate had a mellow flavor, which I like, because I prefer milk chocolate over dark. I liked to let these melt slowly in my mouth, letting all the sweet and smooth chocolate dissolve until just a piece of banana was left. The banana piece itself is dried banana, so it’s chewy. It has an overall mellow banana flavor, but is also slightly sweet. It goes perfectly with the chocolate. I’m giving these 5 stars for taste, nutrition, the fact that they help the planet (woo!) and the portion size. You can eat a whole bag for only 240 calories 🙂 Chocolate lovers rejoice!

1 serving (3 table spoons) is 120 calories, 5 grams of fat, 21 carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, and 1 gram of protein. 3 Tbsp. doesn’t seem like a lot, but it really is. A bag of these is lasting me longer than I thought, and you appreciate the flavors more if you savor them 🙂

Organic Dark Chocolate (Fair Trade Certified) (evaporated cane juice, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, vanilla), Organic Banana (dried banana, rice flour).

Stonyfield Farm Organic Banilla Yogurt

Stonyfield Farm, as you all should know, makes dozens of products ranging from organic/all natural yogurts, frozen desserts and smoothies. They all benefit the earth and are made using only nature’s finest ingredients. I personally love their yogurt, and I’ve passed by the Banilla flavored yogurt way too many times in the store, simply because it was in the 32 oz. cup instead of the individual cups. For conveinence, of course, I usually only buy the individual 6 oz. cups, plus it is easy portion control. However, I decided I was in the mood for a new flavor of yogurt, and Stonyfield has never let me down before, so I decided to give Banilla a try.

So i took home the 32 oz. “cup” of yogurt and took out a spoon from my cupboard. I took a scoop and instantly fell in love. My taste-buds rejoiced upon tasting this yogurt. THIS WAS MY NEW FAVORITE FLAVOR! I was actually, to be honest, a little mad at myself for not buying it any sooner just because it was in the 32 oz. size instead of the 6 oz.

It was very creamy, not runny at all, and had a real banana flavor. Not that “artificial banana” flavor that you get when you buy candy like Laffy Taffy or something of the sort. But it really tasted like vanilla yogurt blended with banana puree. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and was just perfect. Definietely worth 5 stars! I’ve had it multiple times already, and my favorite concoctions [so far] are

1. Banilla Yogurt, Trader Joe’s Chocolate Toucan cookies, sliced bananas, and a squirt of whipped cream.

2.Banilla Yogurt, Kashi Go Lean Crunch Cereal, sliced bananas, and some organic chocolate syrup.

3.Banilla Yogurt, Kashi Honey Puffs and a Kashi Dark Chocolate cookie.

The possibilities are endless! I’m planning on freezing some soon and maybe mixing it with some peanut butter. Yum!! I will definietly keep buying this flavor, (and secretly wish they transfer it to the 6 oz variety!!) especially with the MyStonyField Rewards program, it is worth 4 points per lid!

Penny’s Low Fat Desserts Toffee Cinnamon & Chocolate Truffle Cookies

Well, we all know I looooooove Penny’s Low Fat Desserts. She makes some kickin’ products that taste great, are all natural, and have a reasonable portion size for relatively low amount of calories and fat. I reviewed her muffin tops (which ROCKED) here, so if you are unfamiliar with her products, check it out.

Recently I received the No Sugar Added Toffee Cinnamon Cookie in the mail. It’s Penny’s new product, targeted especially for Diabetics (coincidence- I AM a type 1 Diabetic! 😉 ). I also tried the other variety Penny offers, the Chocolate Truffle. These cookies are sweetened with erythritol and rebiana rather than sugar, are high in fiber and are only 100 calories each.
No Sugar? you ask. Aren’t these going to be bland and have that weird aftertaste?
HA!
These cookies will ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF. Read on, bloggies ! 8)

Chocolate Truffle– This cookie fooled my taste buds into thinking it was eating a truffle. It is sooo moist and crumbly, almost a buttery texture. It was sweet, with a deep chocolately taste. The outside rim is slightly lighter in color than the rest of the cookie, and is the sweetest and softest part of the cookie. It’s so hard to believe there isn’t any sugar in this- it’s AMAZING. It was satisfying and filling too, with the 7 grams of fiber.

Toffe Cinnamon Cookie- ahhhhh. Also heavenly. It has a delicate flavor, crumbly, soft and melts in your mouth. It was also sweeter on the edges of the cookie than in the middle.  It reminded me of the top of those cinnamon crumb cakes. It paired very well with some vanilla yogurt too.

I was literally upset when these cookies were over, they are so good. I hope she comes out with another flavor soon. Something peanut buttery? Caramel? Chocolate Chip? I love the texture of the cookies the most. It melts in your mouth.Penny. You are a genious! 5 stars for your no sugar added cookies from heaven 😉

Vermont Village Cannery Organic Applesauce & Apple Butter

Time for Thanksgiving review number 2! I figured applesauce and apple butter would fit the bill nicely. We always use applesauce as a compliment to the other dishes, but I like it in place of gravy with my turkey and I like using it as a condiment the next day for cold turkey and apple sandwiches. Yum! So i was excited to try products by Vermont Village Cannery. They make applesauce in the individual cups and jars in flavors Original Unsweetened, Raspberry, Mixed Berry, Peach, StrawberryBanana, Maple Syrup, Tropical Mango, Cranberry and Cinnamon and they also make a Spiced Apple Butter.  Basically, me being the fan of applesauce that i am, i’m in applesauce heaven. All of the products are naturally grown and made in Vermont, and the apples are purchased locally and are pesticide free. They also don’t have any added sugars or preservatives, and most of the products are organic if not all  natural.
I got to try the Peach, Cinnamon, Strawberry Banana and Maple Syrup varieties of the applesauce, and the spiced apple butter. What did i think?

Each of the applesauces had a velvety smooth texture, which I absolutely loved. No chunks, pieces or even tiny blumps in these applesauces. It had a smooth feeling going down, and you can tell a lot of TLC was put into cooking and making the applesauces. I enjoyed every single flavor I tried.

Peach- this one had a strong and subtly sweet peach flavor, complimented nicely by the apple. I froze this one for about 30 minutes, and had a little peach slushie. Yum! 4 stars

Cinnamon- oooh. total dessert applesauce we got here. SO smooth, SO delicious. The cinnamon flavor is absolutely perfect, and it tastes as if it had been simmering with cinnamon sticks and cooked for a while to acheive such a good taste. 4 1/2 stars 🙂

Strawberry-Banana- this one had more of a tartness to it than the peach, probably due to the strawberry flavor. I didn’t taste much banana, but rather more of a strawberry-apple combination. It also had just the right amount of sweetness. 4 stars

Maple Syrup-  another favorite. I was so excited to try this one, because i adore maple flavored things. It was the smoothest out of all of them texture wise, and had just a hint of maple flavor. It also had a bit of a lemon aftertaste. I heated it up in the microwave and it tasted like the inside of an apple pie. Deeeeeeee-lish. I would liek to crush some graham cracker crumbs and heat this up and place it on top- sort of like a mock pie! 4 1/2 stars

Spiced Apple Butter- Vermont Village Cannery is awarded BEST APPLE BUTTER EVER. Seriously. This stuff BLEW ME AWAY. It had a buttery (heh, no pun intended) consistency and it was sweet despite no added sugar. It had a nice blend of a nutmeg/cinnamon/maple taste, and I would totally eat it out of the jar (in fact, i did 😉 ) . It was perfect on waffles and heated up. I also used it in place of jelly for my usual PB&J and let’s just say I didn’t miss my sweet grape jelly at all. This stuff is SO good YOU MUST TRY IT. 5 stars!!!

Overall, obviosuly I loved these products. There great and perfect this time of the year, and anytime in my eyes 🙂 I’m giving 4 stars to the applesauce, and 5 for the apple butter. I would like to try the tropical mango variety. It sounds delish! Clearly, Apples +Vermont Village Cannery = amazing. Keep up the good work!

P.B. Loco Flavored Gourmet Peanut Butter

Time to review something I eat every day without fail. I love, love, love (love!) peanut butter. 6 days out of 7, i eat pb& jelly/honey/maple/apple butter or fluff sandwiches. Then for snacks, peanut butter flavored granola bars, pb spread on cereal, apples, PB Puffin cereal, you get the point. I can’t get enough. So i was SO FREAKING EXCITED to try a FLAVORED peanut butter!

P.B. Loco makes all natural, gourmet flavored peanut butters, that appeal to the “adult” senses. Of course, there are no hydrogenated oils used (yay!) . They also have cafe locations where they concoct delicious-sounding sandwiches like Yummer Nutter, which is white chocolate peanut butter by P.B. Loco, Nutella Spread and and Banana. Yum! They make  Peanut Butter with Caramel Apple, with Chocolate-Chip Cookie Dough,  with CoCoBanana, with Dark Chocolate Duo, with Jungle Banana, with Raspberry White Chocolate, with Sumatra Cinnamon and Raisin, with Asian Curry Spice and then Original “Munchy Crunchy” and “Creamy Dreamy”.  Can we say peanut butter heaven? 🙂 🙂 🙂

P.B. Loco sent me 2 1.8 oz samples, or about 3 and a half  Tablespoons, (in these cute little jars that resembled make-up jars!) in flavors Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Jungle Banana.  I could hardly contain my excitement, i ate them both in one day. 😀

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough- wow. Such a different take on peanut butter. It smells sweet, my mom said it smelled like “a bag of Halloween candy”, but a good kind of sweet. It’s a little bit runnier than Jif or SKippy (but that’s a good thing because Jif & Skippy have HYDROGENATED oils, and P.B. Loco does NOT!) and there are swirls of chocolate and itty bitty chocolate chips in it. It really tastes amazing. I didn’t need to spread it on anything, and i ate the whole “jar” they sent me at once (who couldn’t?)  It has a nice blend of salty-sweet, but it isn’t too sweet. Just right. It kind of tastes like raw peanut butter cookie dough with bits of chocolate chips in it. P.B. Loco hit this one of the head. 5 stars!! 🙂 🙂

here’s what it looked like (before i devoured it!!)

Jungle Banana- ooooohhhh this one’s good. It smells sweet too, and you can actually smell banana. This one is amazing. It’s as close as you can get to peanut butter and banana mixed together. In fact, i think P.B. Loco smooshed a banana in a peanut butter jar. It’s just the perfect blend of Peanut butter and banana, and it’s smooth and satisfying. Also eaten in one sitting. Heh 🙂  5 stars.

Overall. Need i say it? These are awesome. If you like peanut butter, you gotta buy these. I wish PB Loco sent me more samples (or at least bigger ones!!) because i want more, more, more!! 🙂 I really want to try the chocolate varieties and CARAMEL APPLE! Yum!
