Food Should Taste Good Tortilla Chips

Food Should Taste Good- unless why  bother eating it?
That’s what comes to mind when I thought of these flavored tortilla chips. Flavored? you ask. Yep! They come in a bazillion (okay, not that many, more like eleven) varieties, ranging from chocolate to lime. Yum! They are also all natural, gluten free, a good source of fiber, and made without any GMO’s.

I was sent these delicious tortilla chips in the mail, and after eating them,  I will not be going back to regular corn Tostitos any time soon! Sorry! I got to try the Cinnamon, Sweet Potatoe, Chocolate and Yellow Corn Flavor provided so generously by Food Should Taste Good. I was also sent the Lime flavor but, some grubby hands snatched that bag before I even got a chance to try one! 😡  I’ll keep the person anonymous (you know who you are!!), but he said they were very tasty. Grr.

anyway-
Cinnamon- These weren’t quite what I expected. I was expecting a sweet cinnamon sugar chip-instead what I got was a very strong corn flavor with a hint of ground cinnamon. Now sweet cinnamon as I had expected. It is slightly sweet, but no where near a dessert sugary sweet. It reminded me and tasted like cinnamon life cereal, but less sweet. They were good dipped in suzanne’s ricemellow creme and also with applesauce. 🙂

Sweet Potato- this flavor tricks you! At first I was like “oh, normal flavor, where’s the sweet potato?”. But after-! You get the sweet aftertaste of a sweet potato! It has a very smooth flavor and just the right amount of salt. I like to think it’s one of the healthier ones because I’m technically eating 2 veggies at once- corn & sweet potatoes 😛

Chocolate- This one was my favorite, and not what I expected. I thought it was honestly going to taste funky, but it was actually really good! The flavor is caught between a chocolate graham cracker and a tortilla chip. It’s salty at first, then you taste the corn tortilla, and then a dark chocolate flavor shines through. It was very good, and left that “I just ate CHOCOLATE” flavor in my mouth.

Yellow Corn-standard corn tortilla flavor. Nice and crunchy and just the right amount of salt. Perfect with salsa (obviously), and even by itself. It was very good and I will probably pick this over Tostitos or other less healthy brands.

Overall, I give these 4 stars. They are a healthier alternative to potato chips, have some rather interesting flavors & pack some fiber as well. They can also be combined with various spreads and dips to create crazy-good concoctions. Let me know if you have any of your own!!

1 serving (about 10 chips) ranges from 140 calories, 6-7 grams of fat, 17-19 carbohydrates, 3-4 grams of fiber, and 2 grams of protein.

The ingredients are also pretty much the same for all, with spices and extra flavors added depending on the variety. Check the website here if you are interested. Here’s the stats for the Yellow Corn.
Stone Ground Corn- High Oleic Sunflower and/or Safflower Oil, Sea Salt.

Medora Snacks Pogos

Medora snacks are 100 % natural, and were created by a mom who wanted to give her family healthy and nutritious snacks. The word Medora actually means A Mother’s Gift. They have a “unique baking process” that allows them to make wholesome and tasty snacks that are actually GOOD for you. Pogos are one of the snacks they manufacture, and are a blend of real cheese and potatoes, as well as other spices, and come in White Cheddar, Hickory Smoked and Jalapeno Cheddar.

But….What’s a Pogo? Immediately upon hearing “Pogo”, I thought of my childhood Pogo stick. Bouncing aimlessly for hours trying to get consecutive times and such- a truly fun activity. I guess you could compare a Pogo stick to Medora’s snack “Pogos”. These  potato cheese sticks even sort of resemeble a “bounce”! They are wavy in shape and resemble crinkle cut fries-Guess i wasn’t too far off with my “pogo stick” vision!

I tried the White Cheddar and Hickory Smoked flavors of the potato cheese sticks. They are harder and smoother than your typical crunchy cheese doodle, and also more airy.

White Cheddar-yummmm. Even opening and taking a whiff of these made my mouth water. The smell of Cheeeeseee 🙂 These reminded me of a blend of white cheddar popcorn and those skinny potatoe stick snacks I used to have when I was younger. Really good, sharp white cheddar cheese flavor. Not too salty either- just right. These were so good, I ate both servings in one sitting 😀

Hickory Smoked– wow these are good too. They also have a white cheddar flavor, with a hint of paprika. The flaovr is more robust, and certainly delicious. They actually have a real “Hickory Smoke” flavor- I even felt like I tasted a bit of a “bacon” flavor! You can bet I gobbled these down too!

Overall, these get 4 stars. They taste amazing and are very addicting. A perfect and healthier swap for potato chips, and are perfect for when you have the munchies :). I like also how I can have a cheesy snack without all the annoying residue left on my fingers (and inevitably, all over the table, my clothes, etc. 😀 ) They would get 5 stars if they had a weee bit more fiber-they have less than 1 gram per serving , and they are also a little high in sodium (10% for 1 serving). Other than that- you need to try these. Delicious!!

1 serving (1 ounce) is 110 calories, 4 grams of fat, 16-18 carbohydrates, less than 1 gram of fiber, and 2 grams of protein.

White CheddarPotato Pellets (potato flakes, rice flour, potato starch, salt), Seasoning (whey, semisoft cheese [milk, cheese culture, salt, enzymes] buttermilk solids, salt, natural flavor, calcium phosphate, sodium phosphate, lactic acid), Water, Mid Oleic Sunflower Oil.

Hickory Smoked-Potato Pellets (potato flakes, rice flour, potato starch, salt), Seasoning (whey, semisoft cheese [milk, cheese culture, salt, enzymes] buttermilk solids, salt, natural flavor, calcium phosphate, sodium phosphate, lactic acid), Water, Mid Oleic Sunflower Oil, Hickory Smoked Seasoning (maltodextrin, autolyzed yeast, citric acid, paprika, natural smoke flavor).

Stonyfield Farm Organic Banilla Yogurt

Stonyfield Farm, as you all should know, makes dozens of products ranging from organic/all natural yogurts, frozen desserts and smoothies. They all benefit the earth and are made using only nature’s finest ingredients. I personally love their yogurt, and I’ve passed by the Banilla flavored yogurt way too many times in the store, simply because it was in the 32 oz. cup instead of the individual cups. For conveinence, of course, I usually only buy the individual 6 oz. cups, plus it is easy portion control. However, I decided I was in the mood for a new flavor of yogurt, and Stonyfield has never let me down before, so I decided to give Banilla a try.

So i took home the 32 oz. “cup” of yogurt and took out a spoon from my cupboard. I took a scoop and instantly fell in love. My taste-buds rejoiced upon tasting this yogurt. THIS WAS MY NEW FAVORITE FLAVOR! I was actually, to be honest, a little mad at myself for not buying it any sooner just because it was in the 32 oz. size instead of the 6 oz.

It was very creamy, not runny at all, and had a real banana flavor. Not that “artificial banana” flavor that you get when you buy candy like Laffy Taffy or something of the sort. But it really tasted like vanilla yogurt blended with banana puree. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and was just perfect. Definietely worth 5 stars! I’ve had it multiple times already, and my favorite concoctions [so far] are

1. Banilla Yogurt, Trader Joe’s Chocolate Toucan cookies, sliced bananas, and a squirt of whipped cream.

2.Banilla Yogurt, Kashi Go Lean Crunch Cereal, sliced bananas, and some organic chocolate syrup.

3.Banilla Yogurt, Kashi Honey Puffs and a Kashi Dark Chocolate cookie.

The possibilities are endless! I’m planning on freezing some soon and maybe mixing it with some peanut butter. Yum!! I will definietly keep buying this flavor, (and secretly wish they transfer it to the 6 oz variety!!) especially with the MyStonyField Rewards program, it is worth 4 points per lid!

1 cup is 200 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 35 carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, 9 grams of protein and 35% daily value of calcium + tons of probiotics!

Dr. Lucy’s Gluten Free Cookies

Looking for a delicious, gluten and food allergy free cookie? Well, your searching ends here my friends, I found some DELICIOUS, gluten, milk, egg, peanut and almond free cookies. They are developed by Dr. Lucy, who is an M.D. and a mother of a child who has very bad allergies. She says, “I know how difficult it can be to find high-quality foods that taste great. That’s why I started my own line of cookies”.

The cookies come in 4 flavors, Cinnamon Thin, Sugar, Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal, and are all natural and mostly organic. They come in individual pouches with 4 cookies in each, or in box format. Each cookie is about the size of a Nabisco Chips Ahoy cookie, and is crispy. They have a light, airy, crunchy feel to them, and are the opposite of soft-baked/chewy cookies. Still delicious, none the less. Read on!

Cinnamon Thin– yum! These reminded me of snickerdoodles. It has a nice melt-in-your mouth consistency and had lots of cinnamon flavor.

Sugar– soo good. Tasted just like Mom’s homemade sugar cookies during Christmas season. You could totally decorate these with some icing and pass them off as homemade 😉 . They are covered with sugar crystals and have a buttery flavor. The vanilla also added a nice touch.

Chocolate Chip– This one tasted like the sugar cookie, but with some chocolate chips. I really enjoyed the chocolate chips though, they were perfect in the cookie, I just wish there were more! There was also a nice mixture of a vanilla/brown sugar taste in these. Very enjoyable and different from the standard chewy chocolate chip.

Oatmeal– oatmeal? AH, how can this be gluten free?! Don’t worry- Dr. Lucy ensured that these  oats are gluten free! And, also delicious. This one wasn’t as sweet as the others, but still very good. Had a nice oaty taste to it, but not overpowering at all. I spread some peanut butter on these and it was just heavenly. 🙂

Overall, I’m giving these 4 1/2 stars. Not only are they gluten and allergy free, they are all natural, do not use refined sugars, are relatively low in fat, have a good portion size and taste EXCELLENT. They pair well with milk or by themselves. Why didn’t they receive 5 stars you ask? Well, my only complaints are 1. They lack fiber (but most gluten free and cookies in general do) and 2. The individual pouches have four cookies per pouch but a serving is three cookies. And with cookies that taste THIS GOOD, who in their right mind would be able to resist the 4th cookie in the bag?? Certainly not me, so i just pretend a serving size is 4 cookies 😀

Dr. Lucy, your cookies rock. I hope you come out with more products or another flavor. Chocolate brownie? Caramel?? 🙂

1 serving (3 cookies) ranges from 120-130 calories, 4.5-5 grams of fat, 18-21 grams of carbohydates, 1-2 grams of fiber, and 2 grams of protein.

Penny’s Low Fat Desserts Toffee Cinnamon & Chocolate Truffle Cookies

Well, we all know I looooooove Penny’s Low Fat Desserts. She makes some kickin’ products that taste great, are all natural, and have a reasonable portion size for relatively low amount of calories and fat. I reviewed her muffin tops (which ROCKED) here, so if you are unfamiliar with her products, check it out.

Recently I received the No Sugar Added Toffee Cinnamon Cookie in the mail. It’s Penny’s new product, targeted especially for Diabetics (coincidence- I AM a type 1 Diabetic! 😉 ). I also tried the other variety Penny offers, the Chocolate Truffle. These cookies are sweetened with erythritol and rebiana rather than sugar, are high in fiber and are only 100 calories each.
No Sugar? you ask. Aren’t these going to be bland and have that weird aftertaste?
HA!
These cookies will ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF. Read on, bloggies ! 8)

Chocolate Truffle– This cookie fooled my taste buds into thinking it was eating a truffle. It is sooo moist and crumbly, almost a buttery texture. It was sweet, with a deep chocolately taste. The outside rim is slightly lighter in color than the rest of the cookie, and is the sweetest and softest part of the cookie. It’s so hard to believe there isn’t any sugar in this- it’s AMAZING. It was satisfying and filling too, with the 7 grams of fiber.

Toffe Cinnamon Cookie- ahhhhh. Also heavenly. It has a delicate flavor, crumbly, soft and melts in your mouth. It was also sweeter on the edges of the cookie than in the middle.  It reminded me of the top of those cinnamon crumb cakes. It paired very well with some vanilla yogurt too.

I was literally upset when these cookies were over, they are so good. I hope she comes out with another flavor soon. Something peanut buttery? Caramel? Chocolate Chip? I love the texture of the cookies the most. It melts in your mouth.Penny. You are a genious! 5 stars for your no sugar added cookies from heaven 😉

Penny’s Low Fat Desserts- Muffin Tops

penny

Are you a fan of Vitalicious’s Vitamuffins? Well, then you should DEFINITELY check out Penny’s Low Fat Desserts! Penny’s makes all natural, nutritious desserts, such as muffins, cookies and what I got to try, the muffin tops! The muffin tops come in Orange-Cranberry, Almond Poppy seed, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Carrot Raisin and Apple Cinnamon flavor. All are about 100-120 calories, generously sized (2 oz) and have 10% calcium needs per serving. There also individually wrapped, so portion control is easy 🙂

So how did these muffin tops taste? Well…

Carrot Raisin Top- my first bite, my brain said “Oh. My. God. THIS IS DELICIOUS!” The raisins were plump and perfect. The muffin was chewy and soft. You could actually see the pieces of carrots! I tasted a nice hint of nutmeg, and overall it had a sweet carrot flavor, like carrot cake. It was excellent. 5 stars 🙂 🙂

Almond Poppy Seed Top- Also DELICIOUS! It had a nice, light, lemony flavor and i really liked the teensy poppy seeds that added a bit of a crunch. It was soft, and moist and tasted like angel food cake to me. Went perfect with my Brown Cow Strawberry greek yogurt. I actually let a little piece sit in the yogurt for a few minutes and it got really soft and yummy! 5 stars for this one too!!

Apple Cinnamon Top– this one was also amazing! It tasted like Quaker Apple Cinnamon oatmeal to me! It was very moist, and mildly sweet. The cinnamon added a nice touch. I loved the apple chunks/pieces in it. 4 stars!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Top- This one was the only one i wasn’t crazy about. And it’s chocolate too! Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but not as chocolatey as i expected. I think i would have liked it better if it wasn’t double chocolate, but perhaps just a chocolate chip muffin. But, it was soft, and mildly sweet. I did like the gooey chocolate chips,  especially after warming in the microwave 🙂 It had a mellow chocolate flavor, and it paired well with a glass of milk. I think it might taste good with a smearing of peanut butter on it. 3 stars

Overall, these kick butt! I’m giving them 4 stars as a whole. The almond poppy seed and carrot raisin are 2 that I like a LOT !  I paired these with a yogurt for breakfast and was satisfied because it was not only delicious, but filling. I would love Penny to make a banana flavored top or something with peanut butter.

Newman’s Own Organic Honey Wheat Mini Pretzels

new

Good ol “Pa” and Nell Newman, we love you! Newman’s company has given over 200 million dollars to charities worldwide since 1982. The profits from their delicious snacks and yummy chocolates (hellooo caramel cups!! 🙂  )is dedicated toward making the world a better place. So you really can feel good about eating their products (even if you “accidentally” overindulge in a whole chocolate bar…whoops!…it was for a good cause!!).

So onto the review. Honey Wheat Mini Pretzels. Now, i’m not a pretzel person really. I find them usually unsatisfying and too salty. But something caused me to grab these in a snack rut, and i sure am glad I did.

Before i start, i must say the package is adorable. It has Nell and Pa on the front as bee keepers. Cute! The pretzels are about the size of your average snack-sized mini pretzel, and in the typical shape (not circles, sticks or nuggets). The pretzels have a nice honey taste to them, and are slightly sweet. You can mostly taste the sweetness after you swallow the pretzel, so it leaves a nice aftertaste. They were nice and crunchy, and had a fresh, clean taste to them. No burnt flavor like some pretzels have. They were salty, too, but it went well with the sweet. Surprisingly, there was only 180mg of sodium per serving, which isn’t a lot for a packaged pretzel. I’ve seen as much as 400mg per serving! Hellloooooo bloating! I had 2 bowls of these, one bowl with a root beer Zevia (awesome combo), and the 2nd bowl with a Zensoy chocolate pudding (also an awesome combo).

These are a good munchy snack and i was satisfied eating these! I give them 4 stars, because they also have 3 grams of fiber per serving, which is unusual in pretzels, but totally fine with me! 🙂
What is your favorite brand of pretzels? does anyone know any cinnamon sugar varieties?! 🙂 🙂 🙂

1 serving (20 pretzels) is 110 calories, 1 gram of fat, 22 carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein.

Organic Unbleached Wheat Flour, Organic Whole Wheat Flour, Organic Honey, Organic Sugar, Organic Sunflower Oil, Salt, Yeast and Soda.
